One of Texas' best kept secrets is that
some of the best motorcycle rides and scenic beauty are right here at Possum Kingdom Lake.
On the WEST SIDE:
From the south, ride up Park Road 33 from Hwy180, past the State Park on Rural Road
1148. Or from Graham, take FM 1287 to 1148 East and be prepared for one wild
ride! It may only be 9 miles long but this road is one twist after another! 1148
dead ends at Lakeshore Marina and RV Park. But that's ok. Just head back the
way you came for more wild fun!
Be sure to stop in at Fox Hollow's Hungry Fox Restaurant (at the end
of Fox Hollow Rd) for some of the best catfish you'll ever eat. Or try PaPa's
Sports Bar & Grill for a fantastic Mesquite Burger.
On the EAST SIDE:
Riding North on TX 16 from Hwy 180 (at Brad) is one long shot but it takes you across the
Brazos River below Morris Sheppard Dam (sweepers)and up Kimberland Mountain
(twisties). Past that you just have to turn onto FM 2353 (left turn only) and go up
a short distance to Observation Point where you can view the top of the dam and a
beautiful view of the lake. Leaving there, go back to FM 2353 and turn left.
Go on up to Park Road 36, hang a left at Mr. C's Texaco and follow Park Road 36 till it
turns to FM 2951 which dead ends at Sandy Beach.
Along the way you pass the Pizza Pro, The Trading Post Grocery
and the Rockin' S Restaurant. Any of those places are great stops for hungry
riders. Back track to FM 2353 and head North to TX 16. Turn left (North) and
follow 16 on to Graham.
Just as you get into Graham turn left on Old Bunger Road (FM 1287) and
head South. Turn Left on RR 1148 and do the run to Lakeshore Marina. Turn
around, head back to FM 1287. Turn left and follow the right curve where FM 1287
will become 1148. Head South to Caddo on Hwy 180, turn left heading east.
You have just ridden completely around Possum Kingdom Lake.
Approximately 100 miles. Have fun, ride safe!
Come Ride the Possum Kingdom Lake Area, enjoy the scenic beauty,
relax at any of the many conveniences and watch out for the "critters"!
